University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is making it easier and less expensive for you to complete a graduate program. For most master’s degrees and all graduate certificates, UMGC has doubled the number of credits you can transfer, saving you time and money.

Transfer to a Master’s Program

Now you can fast-track your master's program and earn the advanced degree you need propel your career to new heights. UMGC accepts up to 12 transfer credits toward most master’s degree programs, including all of our management, biotechnology, accounting, finance, and IT master’s degrees.

With 12 transfer credits, for example, you’re already a third of the way to completing an MS in IT: Software Engineering or Bioinformatics, and 40 percent of the way to a master’s in CyberAccounting or Healthcare Administration.

Jaliyah Royston transferred to UMGC and graduated with an MS in accounting information systems1 in 2021.

"One of my professors recommended that I transfer to UMGC because they would take a majority of my credits. So, when I was able to transfer over, I pretty much picked up where I left off. UMGC helped me get my degree faster."

Transfer to a Graduate Certificate Program

You can also transfer up to 6 credits toward any of UMGC's 24 online graduate certificates. Earning an affordable and valuable graduate certificate is a great way to develop skills quickly and earn a credential that will help set you apart from the crowd.

Many certificate programs are 18 credits, so with 6 transfer credits, you’ll have one-third of the credits you need, for example, for an Accounting or Digital Health Leader certificate. If you opt for a 12-credit certificate, such as Business Analytics or Cybersecurity Technology, you’re already halfway done!

The number of credits you can transfer varies with each program, and credits must be earned at an approved institution and be related to your program of study.
