Admission to the program is competitive and is based on a combination of all requirements. Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.

Please note: We are admitting a new cohort in spring 2022. After this, new cohorts begin in the fall term only.

All applicants will be pre-screened by DMCCPA faculty/staff based on the qualifications in the bulleted list below. Applicants who pass the pre-screen process will be required to interview (30 minutes; via phone or teleconference) with the DMCCPA admissions committee, which will use a common interview guide and will be comprised of faculty members, a staff member, and the program director. Final admissions recommendations will be based upon evaluation of written submissions and interview recommendations from faculty.

You must submit the following materials:

• Official transcript indicating successful completion of a master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited university or college (equivalent degrees from other accredited institutions may be considered on a case-by-case basis); if you were educated abroad, you may need to meet additional requirements

• An up-to-date resume

• Two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references sent to admissions@umgc.edu using the doctorate recommendation form.

• Responses to three specific writing prompts (300–500 words per prompt)

This program follows standard UMGC admission requirements.

Applicants must provide an official transcript(s) in its original sealed envelope(s) demonstrating all of the following:

• Completion of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
• Completion of a major in the content area for which certification will be sought (alternatively, and subject to UMGC approval, you can complete 30 credits in content-related courses)**
• A cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher in content area coursework

All applicants must also provide proof of qualifying test scores on the , or alternatively a qualifying composite score on the Praxis I, SAT®¹, ACT, or GRE. Titles and qualifying scores for these exams can be found at the .

• Applicants looking to teach computer science who possess a degree or coursework older than five years must also take the Praxis II content exam for computer science (5652) and submit a qualifying test score (149) to apply to the MAT program, in addition to submitting a qualifying test score on any one of the Maryland basic skills tests.
• **Foreign language applicants may be admitted without having a major or 30 credits in the particular language they wish to teach, but they must submit scores of Advanced Low on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and the Written Proficiency Test (WPT) for the language as well as show a overall cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher in their bachelor's degree and a qualifying score on any one of the Maryland basic skills tests.
