President's Scholarship

Find out if you can earn a scholarship of up to $2,000 from UMGC.

University of Maryland Global Campus established the President's Scholarship as an institutional scholarship for high-achieving students with demonstrated financial need. Eligible students can earn a maximum annual scholarship amount of $2,000 (maximum of $1,000 each for the fall and spring semesters). Scholarship funds cannot be transferred from one semester to another. Annual funding for the President's Scholarship is limited; not all eligible students will receive an award.

How to Earn This Scholarship

The Office of Financial Aid selects the President's Scholarship recipients each year based on the eligibility criteria listed below. There is no application for students to complete for this award.

Initial Eligibility Criteria

To meet the initial eligibility criteria to be considered for this scholarship, students must

  • Have successfully completed a minimum of 15 credits of undergraduate coursework or 9 credits of graduate coursework in their current academic program at t ºÚÁÏÉçÇø
  • Enroll at least half-time in program-applicable courses in each semester they receive the scholarship (6+ credits for undergraduate and master's degree students; 4+ credits for doctoral students)
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0
  • Have a completed  on file for the year in consideration (FAFSA verification must be completed if applicable)
  • Meet the requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress at t ºÚÁÏÉçÇø

Eligibility information: Each year there are more eligible students than there are scholarship funds available. Meeting all the eligibility criteria for any scholarship does not guarantee an award.

From the eligible student population identified from the criteria above, multiple factors are then considered and weighed to determine which students will be awarded the scholarship. These factors include cumulative GPA, Student Aid Index (SAI) and demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA, and UMGC earned credits.

Students are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA as early as possible each year when it becomes available in October. If a student does not have the required FAFSA on file but meets the other eligibility criteria listed above at the time awarding begins each year (typically in mid-summer), the student may not be considered for this award.

Please note: Students may not receive the President’s Scholarship and the President’s Grant in the same term.

Scholarship Details

Students awarded the President's Scholarship will receive a notification by email and the award will be visible in the MyUMGC Student Portal. Please remember that funds cannot be transferred from one semester to another.

UMGC aims to offer scholarship funding to as many eligible students as possible each year based on available funding. For this reason, it is not common for students to receive more than one donor-funded or institutional scholarship in an aid year.

The standard combined annual maximum award amount for most donor-funded and institutional awards is $2,000.
